Where am I going ? ... to Châteaudun of course !!

 Who am I ?
 Where am I going ?
 Why on a bicycle ?
It has been several years now since I first thought about going a long bicycle trip … and I have imagined all sorts of itineraries, including a loop around the African continent and another loop around the Mediterranean sea. For several reasons, and I guess one of them being that I have lived in Asia for so long, I never found any logic in it, which was kind of paralyzing !

Logic is important to me ; and so is consistency.

But one day a light came on, giving me a fresh perspective. Since I have enjoyed myself long enough in Asia and because I want to go home to France, why not go home now and why not on a bicycle !!

This travel will serve a purpose.

The most simple ideas are not always the easiest to find, yet they usually are the best …

So once the starting point (Bangkok in Thailand) and the arrival point (Châteaudun in France) were identified, I was left with “only” the ~20,000 km in the middle to think about.

And this was a real bliss, because there is no such excitement as to lay down maps on the floor, look at never visited countries and imagine this mountain here, this forest there or this river over there.

Here are the 18 countries I will be travelling in during this trip :
  • Thailand (via the Isaan province)
  • Laos (east from Savannakhet)
  • Viet-Nam (via Hanoi and Dien Bien Phu)
  • China (via the Yunnan province)
  • Tibet (from Dequin to Nyalam, via Lhasa)
  • Nepal (from East to West)
  • India (via the Punjab province)
  • Pakistan (via Quetta and Baloutchistan)
  • Iran (during the winter, from South to North : 2 months and ~ 3,000 km)
  • Turkey (still during the winter, from East to West this time)
  • Greece (during the spring, Europe, at last !)
  • Albania (few days only)
  • Montenegro (few days only)
  • Bosnia-Herzegovine (via Mostar and Sarajevo)
  • Croatia (few days only)
  • Slovenia (few days only)
  • Italy (the North via Parma and Genova)
  • France (via la Provence, Grenoble, Lyon, le massif central and les pays-de-la-Loire).
Below is the itinerary I intend to follow. For more information on each country and for the detailed confirmed itinerary, please have a look to my travel journals.
