Here are introduced the key numbers of this trip, but for the time being, this is just a draft I filled up with the information I have on hand before my departure.

This information will be completed once I will be on my way :
 When you are riding your bicycle, your are testing the human machine, this machine even more silent than your own ride. While pedaling, the 455 muscles of your body work together to provide you with sufficient energy, you put in motion your 211 bones and when you look at a nice scenery while smiling, you are using 17 muscles out of those 455.

Distances ...
  • Total distance : 20,500 km (estimate).
  • Average daily distance : 56 km/day (estimate).
  • Number of countries traveled : 17 countries.
  • Number of days on the bicycle : 254 days, or 70% (estimate).
  • Average distance per riding day : 81 km/day (estimate).
  • Greatest distance covered in one country : 3,660 km in China (estimate).
  • Shortest distance covered in one country : 50 km in Bosnia (estimate).
  • Longest stage : 167 km, from Nang Rong to Kukhan (Thailand).
  • Most difficult stage : 76 km in the mountains, under the rain, in the cold and in the mud of the too many landslides of a devastated road, from NEW Lai Chau to Sapa (Vietnam).
  • Easiest stage : maybe tomorrow ...
  • Top speed : 68.5 km/h, between Kong Jiam and Khemarat (Thailand).
  • Highest altitude :  right now 4,292 meters (Baima snow mountain pass in Yunnan, CHINA), but normally it should go up to ~ 5,100 m in Tibet ... 
  • Steepest slope : 15%, between Sa keao and Non Din Daeng (Thailand) and between NEW Lai Chau and Sapa (Vietnam).

Weights ...
  • Weight of the bicycle alone : 18 kg.
  • Weight of the loaded bicycle : 55 kg.
  • Weight of the cyclist in June 08 : 70 kg.
  • Weight of the cyclist in June 09 : 68 Kg (estimate).

Weather ...
  • Number of rainy days : 14/66.
  • Number of windy days : 4/66.
  • Number of stormy days : 1/66.
  • Number of snowy days : 0/66.
  • Maximum Temperature : +48 degrees celsius in Vietnam.
  • Minimum Temperature : right now 8 degrees in Yunnan, CHINA, but it should go down to -10 degrees celsius in Iran (estimate).


Encounters ...
  • Number of cyclo-tourists met : 3, 1 Dutch lady in Thailand, 1 Belgium guy in Laos and an American in Vietnam.
  • Number of dogs : far too many in Thailand already, but none in Vietnam, not even one, and few only in China.
  • Number of snakes (alive): 2 in Thailand, 1 in Laos.
  • Others : few elephants in Thailand ... and lots of yaks in Tibet.


Accommodation ...
  • % of nights spent in a hotel : 100%.
  • % of nights spent under the tent : 0%.
  • % of nights spent in somebody else house : 0%.
  • Country with the most hospitable people : all were great, but China is leading ...


Budget ...
  • Total budget : 20,000 Euros (estimate).
  • Equipment expenses : 12,000 Euros.
  • Daily expenses : 8,000 Euros (estimate of an average of 22 Euros/day).
  • Least expensive country : 8 Euros/day in Nepal (estimate).
  • Most expensive country : 50 Euros/day in France (estimate).


Technical problems ...

  • Number of technical problems on the bicycle : 2, the automatic rear light (Basta SL6) and both rims which lasted less than 3,000 km (Rigida Grizzly).
