| Longue
marche, d'Istanbul à Xi'ang, a trilogy by Bernard
Ollivier. He walked from Istanbul to China ... yes, he really did it ... and he wrote it well !! The Bombard story / The voyage of the heretique by Alain Bombard. The story of Alain Bombard's 65-day solitary
Atlantic crossing in a collapsible life raft. It
was in 1952 and he did it without taking any drinking
water nor food on board
… an incredible tour
de force of course, but also a major breakthrough in sea
survival techniques, saving many lives afterwards.
Sud lointain : Le courrier de Saïgon and la rivière des parfums by Erwan Bergot. Two
novels about the French Indochina era in Vietnam at the beginning of
the XXth century.

| Et si
l'aventure humaine devait échouer by Théodore Monod. The
Human story, it's about a specie who gets progressively
control
over all the other species. In a few thousand years of a dazzling
evolution, mankind is on top of all. However, this story
could end
abruptly. In compromising its balance with nature, mankind shows
its inability to go beyond its impulses for violence and death. Please
give it a long thought !
Collapse
: How societies choose to fail or succeed ? by Jared Diamond.L'avenir climatique -quel temps feront nous ? by Jean-Marc Jancovici. If there is only one book to read about global warming, this is definitely THE ONE. This book is essential for those who wish to become real responsible citizens of our fragile planet. The author lists all the scientific facts as observed up to today, explains, analyses and suggests solutions for the future, if we want to increase the odds to have one … And
how do they survive or not ? Some societies have chosen to adapt
themselves to their fragile environment, and some other societies have
used up and destroyed everything that could be, and subsequently died
from it. How do you want your future to look like ? ...
Pour en finir avec la société de l'automobile by Marcel Robert. This book compiles some interesting data about the "car society" and tackles a few myth on the way : 1.2 million deaths per year on the road (a September 11th attack everyday !!), an average speed in the city of ~16 km/h only (quite a bicycle pace) and an average "global" speed of 6 km/h (the average "global" speed takes into account the number of hours which were necessary to pay for all the car expenses). This book is not only a pamphlet against the "car society", it proposes also some leads on what kind of solution we could put in place, giving some examples of some city-districts in Germany and Holland where cars have been prohibited … there is hope … You can download this book here -in French- (53 pages and 916 KB) : ![]() |

| La Décroissance pour
tous by
Nicolas Ridoux.
Because
considering the GDP and its growth as the sole indicator of development
may (will)
lead us to a dead-end, it is urgent to think a little bit and explore
alternative development strategies. Getting away from consumerism and
giving
priority to human values is clearly an interesting option …
"A person who believes in
unlimited growth in a limited world is either an economist or a head
case".Peut-on sortir de la folle concurrence ? by Ingmar Granstedt. A very
interesting analysis of the concept of
competition and about its consequences on people and
societies. Somehow it is pretty scary to realize how deep we are in it !
You
can download this book here -in
French- (98 pages and 1.52 MB) :![]() L’inéluctable faillite de l’économie Américaine by William Bonner. The unavoidable bankrupcy of the US economy ! Open you eyes, it's happening right now ... |

in America, Tome 1 and Tome 2 by Alexis de Tocqueville. Two heavy books to understand how works the world ... and the so-called democracies ! 1984 by George Orwell. The
year 1984 was clearly not as bad George Orwell described it, but if you
replace 1984 by 2007, here you have it : not a fiction book, but a
factual book ...
Freedom at midnight by Dominique Lapierre. The -bloody- story of the independence of India. Le chien de Mao by Lucien Bodard. |

Evolution
man : Or, how I ate my father by Roy Lewis. Amazing
mix of prehistory and present, of fiction and reality, in
order to
step back and better understand our society. This book could as well
fall in "politics" or "environment" groups.
The falcon of Siam, the falcon takes wing, the last flight from the falcon, a trilogy by Axel Aylwen. To discover Thailand during the XVIIth century, when Louis the
XIVth was reigning in France, and when the Kingdom of Siam appointed a
Greek prime minister !!
Les Thanatonautes by Bernard Werber. Towards the kingdom of the deads ... the author's creativity seems without limits. A real pleasure. L'empire des anges by Bernard Werber. It comes after les thanatonautes ... and it is still as captivating !! Le Père de nos Pères by Bernard Werber. Excellent again, this time the author explores the origin of mankind !! |

| Sophie's
world by Jostein
Gaarder. THE
book every philosophy teacher should propose to its students. I do
regret mine did not do that, it would have saved me at least
10
years in understanding the main school of thoughts of our world.
Le Pull-over rouge by Gilles Perrault. It's
the story of Christian Ranucci, 22, beheaded the 28th of July
1976
in the Baumettes jail courtyard (in France). It's also the
story
of an incomplete investigation and of a very questionable trial, where
public opinion and media pressure have played a far too important role.
